The Turkey–Western Balkans Relationship (2016–2025)

Description

The relationship between Turkey and the Western Balkans developed significantly during the period 2016–2025, driven by the strengthening of political, economic, and cultural cooperation among the states in the region. Through investments, infrastructure projects, trade partnerships, and diplomatic initiatives, Turkey expanded its presence and influence in the Western Balkans, contributing to regional connectivity and the development of bilateral relations.

Collaboration was evident in areas such as transportation, energy, education, tourism, security, and migration, supported both through governmental agreements and historical and cultural ties. At the same time, the Western Balkans region remained a strategically important space for dialogue between Europe and Asia, within a constantly evolving geopolitical context.
